Resolutions at Kingdom Hall
by sieborg inanyhow i got to thinking today about my days in the borg and the resolutions that would intermittently be made in the announcements for co visit expenses, sending a donation to society www fund etc.
my point is that while i was in (almost thirty two years) i never once saw anyone put up their hand to vote against a resolution that the body of elders proposed.
on a couple of occasions i heard a few hushed murmurs but i never saw one person vote against.

I remember seeing one or two vote against something years ago. But it did not matter. The "resolutions" are shams anyway. -

Excellent Conversation At Literature Trolley
by cofty inyesterday my wife and i enjoyed one of our regular days out at edinburgh - movie, lunch, walk, meal etc.. in the late afternoon while mrs cofty went shopping i had an hour at the excellent museum of scotland and arranged to meet up outside the national gallery on princes street.
on my way back i saw the jw trolley was at the usual spot on the royal mile.
there was an older man and a young woman standing well back trying hard to look inconspicuous.

So what was the younger sister doing while you and the older brother were talking? What was her reaction? Awesome experience by the way!

What does the rise of Donald Trump tell us about the USA?
by fulltimestudent ini thank one of my former lecturers for drawing my attention to this overview.. after some 100 years, living out its "manifest destiny" dream, as the hegemon of the world, what has this 'dream' done to/for the usa?
the approaching presidential election provides an opportunity to examine this question.. and what of all the appendage organisations (like the wts) that rode across the world on the hegemon's coattails?.
the answer may be here: http://www.vox.com/2016/3/1/11127424/trump-authoritarianism.

What does the rise of Donald Trump tell us about the USA?
It tells me that Americans are desperate for change. Instead of electing a politician, why not elect a billionaire who doesn't need anyone's money and who is not afraid to tell it like it is?
A voice in the back of my mind is telling me that this will not work either.

Any organization that can't (or won't) explain where hundreds of millions of dollars go is corrupt. -

Kingdom Hall Built on Site of Former Slave Market
by Wild_Thing inin mississippi, there is a historical site called forks of the road.
before the civil war, it was one of the most active slave trading markets in the south.
it was a triangular piece of land formed by ... you guessed it ... a fork in the road.

I guess the witnesses are just keeping up with tradition. -

Did the Brother giving the Memorial talk mention Nisan 14 ???
by RubaDub inin our congregation, the brother mentioned nisan 14 a dozen times.. i thought, with the fact the jewish calendar has nisan 14 in april this year (april 22 i believe) that the nisan 14 thing would be hushed up.. was it mentioned where you attended?.
rub a dub .

Nisan 14 was mentioned once. I had to keep reminding myself that I was listening to a memorial talk. -

New Memorial Songs Were Very Good, IMO
by RubaDub ini guess we can agree to differ, but i personally found the new memorial songs (147, 149) to be very good, at least from a musical perspective.

Maybe I'm biased, but I thought that the songs (like most of the new songs since 2010) sucked. -

Am l the only one.?The older l become the more hostile l become towards god.
by atomant inthey say you mellow out with age.maybe so but not in my case.l feel its an insult and degrading to us humans to have to live the way we do if there is a god.deep down l guess l do believe theres a god but lm having great difficulty trying to understand why things are the way they are.l dont need a bible bashing from anyone l just feel frustrated and helpless.l just battle on like everyone else but l get the feeling theres a whole lot more to our existence.

You certainly aren't the only one.
Most people get by because of god. I get by in spite of god.
